The Paul Casey Foundation was created with the specific aim of encouraging a healthier lifestyle for young people through their experience of participating in sporting activities. As someone fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to pursue his sporting ambitions, Paul understands the benefits of healthy physical recreation and the need to provide this choice to as many young people as possible.

Charitable Objectives:

  • The promotion of participation by young people in healthy physical recreation/
  • The advancement of education; in particularly (but not exclusively) by providing opportunities for young people to experience and participate in sporting activities.

The Foundation was launched in July 2007 at Foxhills Country Club in Surrey with a free fun sports day for local children. Foxhills was chosen as it was there as an 11 year old that Paul first tried out for a tennis scholarship. Whilst unsuccessful in his first endeavour, they encouraged him to come back and try the following year for one of their golf scholarships, and this time Paul was successful. The Foxhills’ scholarship provided Paul with the opportunity to pursue his sporting dream, something that would not have been possible without the scholarship.

With the help of local education authorities, over 120, 8 to 12 year olds who were not already members of sporting clubs, participated in a range of sporting activities. With the assistance of the LTA (tennis), Surrey County Cricket (cricket) and Surrey Golf Union (golf), parents were made aware of how they could continue these sports within their local community. Additionally, Foxhills selected one candidate for their golf scholarship programme and the LTA offered further coaching for 8 children, funded by the Foundation.

In July 2008, a similar free fun sports day was held at The Roehampton Club + Rossyln Park Rugby Club in Richmond. In addition to tennis, golf and cricket, rugby was offered with the assistance of Rossyln Park Rugby Club and the Heinz Foundation provided healthy meals for all the children.
